The N-232 highway in the section between Morella and Vinaroz, in the province of Castellón, currently improved, with the exception of the Querol Port section (between kilometres 46+300 and 54+900), that is in an unsatisfactory condition.
For this reason the “Querol Port Improvements Construction Project. N-232 kilometre 46+300 to 54+900 Section: Barranco de la Bota – Masía de la Torreta” design of the construction of various infrastructure to correct the existing weaknesses: viaduct, full tunnel, tunnel and other units.
The tunnel that defines the project is the 194.90 m Querol Tunnel and is a single tunnel, circular section with three carriageways and two footpaths. As this is a tunnel with a length below 1500 m, it does not include completion of the sidings (RD-635 security requirements).
The total excavation section of the tunnel varies between 78 m² for rock type I and 105 m² for rock type V.
The geological formations affected by this project are represented by three groups of materials, classified by age: Quaternary materials, Cretaceous materials and Jurassic materials, basically constituted by rocks.
